I like making maps. I experimented with coffee because hipsters, digital nomads, and tech people liked them. I hypothesized it would get traffic. Since then, third wave coffee roasters have become as ubiquitous as Starbucks.

Since then, I consume less coffee and lean more towards supporting the likes of Zapatista Coffee. Not the ones that are just part of marketing and mark-up prices. Ones that try to be a bit more equitable in their profit distribution, like Caraya Coffee in Berlin. I haven’t tried them directly, but you can also try out platforms that support women growing coffee like this one, and this one.

A lesson from those early content experiment days is that what you share you may not be able to take back down. I experimented with Unsplash in its early days and learned quickly that the types of photos people wanted stock access to were not the ones I necessarily wanted to continue taking. Below is one of the consequences, where a small place I used to stop at after visiting Jimbocho became a disembodied image used for social media posts and advertisements alike:
